Apex Facts

What started in 1854 as a small railroad town where steam engines would stop at the top of this climb to replenish their water supply on the way to Raleigh, Apex is now a Number 1 Best Place to Live in the US according to Time/Money Magazine (August 2015). Apex got it’s name from being situated at the highest point along a 30-mile section of the Chatham Railroad. Apex was also one of the first towns to be developed around the state capital of Raleigh and was a busting shopping and trading town. There are about 15 public schools that serve Apex as well as Charter and Private School options nearby. As of 2014 the population of Apex was approx. 44K.

The Halle Cultural Arts Center was originally built as the Apex Town Hall in 1912. Today it features a 135 seat theater, three galleries and two studio classrooms and presents an ongoing schedule of art exhibitions, performances and movie screenings.

The Town offers 2 dog parks, 6 recreational parks with future plans in the works for at least two others. Both youth and adult athletic teams are available for year round fun! There are 11 miles of greenways with more planned as well as connections to the Cary Greenway system. The NC Division of Parks and Recreation operates nine recreation areas at the nearby Jordan Lake State Recreation Area. Enjoy fishing, camping and outdoor recreation, with this beautiful natural preserve just minutes away from Haddon Hall.

Visit the Apex Farmers Market located down town every Saturday from April- October in down town from 9am-2pm where you can find yummy baked goods, crafts, honey, local meat/poultry and of course fresh produce!
